Traveling can be exciting. You get to go to new places, see new things. But when you travel you should do your best to stay healthy. There will be many other people traveling with you; some people may be sick, and the airports may not be that sanitary. The first thing you should do before you travel is see you physician, especially if you suffer from chronic illness. It may not be advisable to fly at all, especially if you’ve been getting worse before you flight. You just shouldn’t travel sick, either. You will just get the other people you are going with sick.
You should try to be healthy before you get on the plane because flying can make whatever illness you have so much worse than it already is. The stress and tiring situations you may face while traveling can make the littlest of colds ten times worse and could even develop into a respiratory illness. This should go to the whole family if one person is sick, they should not go, or the whole family shouldn’t go. Prior to the trip, you should try to tackle any symptom that you have. If you feel something coming on, take Advil and rest up. Take a sick day from work if you need it and make an appointment with a doctor.
Tea and vitamins may help to change illness. It is wise to take these if you are feeling like you have something coming on. Green tea is what you should drink. And you should stay away from sick people. You should try to avoid sick people a couple weeks before your trip; not all symptoms will show right away. You should also stay as hydrated as can be. Commercial airplanes have low humidity and can dehydrate you. Drink plenty of water and try to stay away from soda if you are taking a flight and don’t drink alcohol. Alcohol can especially effect you at different altitudes.
Make sure you pack prescription meds with you on your carry on. If you have a purse, that is the best place to put it and pack healthy snacks that you can eat during your flights and layovers. Also, never fly hungrily. Eating will raise your energy levels. Some flights will offer food but are usually high in sodium. Remember to wash your hands regularly and even bring sanitizer wipes so you can wipe down the seat you are sitting in. Hundreds of people travel each day, and even the seat can be contaminated.
If you are flying out of the country, consult with your doctor. When flying to most countries you may need to get a vaccine that protects you from being in a native land. Once you have landed and eventually want to try new foods that you have had, don’t take any foods from street vendors. These foods may have bacteria that you are not used to and cause you to get very sick. You should eat and a sit-down restaurant if you want to try new foods. Travel safe, travel healthy.
